How it works
Every pick is first converted to an overall pick number:
overall = (round − 1) × teams + pickInRound. In a 12-team league, pick 2.03 is
overall 15; in a 10-team league the same 2.03 is overall 13 — which is why the league-size
control matters. Each overall pick then gets a value from a fixed curve:
v(pick) = 1000 × e−0.026 × (pick − 1), covering overall picks 1
through 240. Sum each side, and the verdict follows the gap:
FAIR within 5%, SLIGHT EDGE from 5–15%, and
LOPSIDED beyond that, where the gap is measured as
(bigger − smaller) ÷ bigger.
The property that makes the tool worth using is that the curve is convex — it falls fast at the top and flattens out late. Pick 1.01 is worth 1,000 points on our scale; 2.01 in a 12-team league is 732; 5.01 is 287. That steep early drop is why bundles of mid-round picks rarely equal one elite pick: two 2nds can outscore a 1st (see the worked example below), but two 5ths (≈540 combined) don't get halfway to the 1.01 — past the early rounds, quantity stops buying back quality. If a trade offer looks like a pile of late-round picks for your best one, the curve usually says what your gut suspected.
Worked example (12-team): you're offered picks 2.05 (overall 17, 660 pts) and 2.08 (overall 20, 610 pts) for your 1.02 (974 pts). The bundle totals 1,270 vs your 974 — a 23% gap, LOPSIDED in the bundle's favor. Whether you take it depends on whether you want two good starters or the one elite player; the calculator tells you the price, not the roster construction. That second question is a chat question.
Superflex
Flip the format to Superflex and picks in rounds 1–4 get a premium: +25% in round 1, +18% in round 2, +10% in round 3, and +5% in round 4. When a league starts two quarterbacks, QBs flood the top of drafts, so early picks buy access to a scarcer, more valuable pool — the premium decays as the QB run thins out by the middle rounds. The bands ship as fixed multipliers in our dataset, not something computed live.
What this is (and isn't)
The incumbents for this search are a dated Footballguys calculator and static DraftSharks-style value charts — fine for eyeballing one pick, painful for scoring a real two-for-one with league size and format in play. This tool does the interactive math, but be clear about the inputs: our curve is a static heuristic baseline in the exponential-decay tradition of classic draft-value charts, frozen at build time — not live market data and not your league's actual behavior. Treat the verdict as a sanity check on the price, and the "to balance" pick as the honest counter-offer to start from.
